Updates from our Community Schools & MTSS Community of Practice

Central/Western Regional Update

The C/W CS TAC’s own Meg Garton and Liz Anderson (at left) joined Jay Roscup and Joe Fantigrossi from Finger Lakes Community Schools (at right) for the Community Schools/MTSS Community of Practice virtual launch.

In December, the Central/Western Region CS TAC  “kicked off” its Community of Practice around the integration of Community Schools and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support through a virtual meeting. Over 50 participants from school districts and community-based organizations gathered to:

• Develop an understanding of Community School characteristics and apply to their current setting
• Develop an understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and apply to their current setting
• Identify key features found in the intersection of Community Schools and MTSS
• Develop an understanding of the guiding principles for the CoP and contribute to their development through discussion and activity

Guest presenters, Mr. Jay Roscup and Dr. Joe Fantigrossi from Finger Lakes Community Schools, joined us to share examples of how MTSS provides the framework for integrating community schools initiatives within their region.

Based on the guiding principles set forth by Leading by Convening (2014), this CoP aims to:

➤ Inform – share and disseminate information more broadly

➤ Network – create new allies; find out what others think and are doing – “real world implementation”

➤ Collaborate – engage people in sharing and providing each other with feedback on emerging ideas; create synergy across levels of implementation

➤ Transform – engage shared leadership, consensus building – increase likelihood of sustainable solutions; implement solutions and report back to the group
