Driving Success Through Community Connection:
How the Greece Central School District and Bob Johnson Auto Group are Redefining the Classroom

In the heart of Western New York, the Greece Central School District (CSD) is proving that a school’s walls are just the beginning of a student’s education. As a leader in the “Community Schools” strategy, Greece CSD has transformed 15 of its 17 schools into hubs of opportunity, focusing on the six key practices of Community Schools Forward.
One practice, in particular, is shifting gears for local high schoolers: Rigorous, Community-Connected Classroom Instruction.
The district’s collaboration with the Bob Johnson Auto Group serves as a gold-standard model for how local businesses can fuel the future workforce. Through the Greece CSD High School Collaborative Internship Program, the automotive giant isn’t just offering a tour—they are offering a career path.
The Program at a Glance:
- Monthly Mentorship: Students visit Bob Johnson facilities once a month for hands-on guidance from industry pros.
- Credential Building: Hours earned contribute toward the CDOS credential and GEWEP programs.
- Future Employment: The internship opens doors to paid summer positions and long-term career opportunities within the auto group.
Removing Roadblocks to Success
What sets the Bob Johnson partnership apart is its commitment to equity. They don’t just teach automotive skills; they proactively solve the real-world problems that often prevent students from succeeding:
- Logistics: The team regularly troubleshoots transportation issues to ensure students can get to the site.
- Professionalism: They have provided funding for professional attire so students feel confident in a corporate environment.
- Supportive Space: This year, they even created a specialized break room stocked with food for students to take home.
“The Bob Johnson team consistently listens to students to help them resolve challenges. They proactively plan for potential obstacles before they even arise.”
The “Community Champion” Impact
In May, this dedication was officially recognized. ACT for Education honored Bob Johnson Auto Group at the “Community Champions” event, celebrating their role as a vital partner in workforce preparation.
This partnership proves that when local businesses invest in a school district, they aren’t just helping kids—they are cultivating their own future employees and strengthening the local economy.
Strategic Alignment for the Future
With the state’s recent educational shifts, the timing could never be better to examine the alignment between the NYS Portrait of a Graduate and the community schools strategy to ensure our students are college- and career-ready. By embedding real-world skills—such as critical thinking, effective communication, and future-focused thinking—directly into the community school framework, Greece CSD is ensuring that every student meets the state’s high vision for success.
