Reflecting on the Changing Suburbs Institute:
A Meaningful Day of Connection and Collaboration

Olga Maluf, Director of the Community Schools Technical Assistance Center – Eastern Region and Barbara Schneer, Eastern CSTAC Resource Specialist were honored to participate in the virtual Changing Suburbs Institute (CSI) on Friday, December 5, 2025.  It was an inspiring day filled with meaningful conversations and connections.

Organized by Manhattanville University and Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES, this important event brought together leaders, educators, and community members across the Hudson Valley to address our region’s growing cultural, linguistic, and economic diversity with connection and care. The energy and commitment was palpable, and it was clear that everyone present shares a deep dedication to supporting our diverse communities.

The day featured a powerful keynote address by Dr. Lester W. Young, Jr., Chancellor of the New York Board of Regents, who shared compelling insights on the importance of equity and inclusion in our educational systems. His words set the tone for a day of collaborative learning and action-oriented discussion.

During the Community Partner Panel, we had the opportunity to share how organizations like Eastern CSTAC are working together to support schools and communities throughout the region. The collaborative spirit among partner organizations was truly encouraging and reminded us of the strength we have when we work together.

In our Eastern CSTAC Spotlight Breakout Session, we dove deeper into the specific resources and services we provide including professional development and technical assistance. It was energizing to connect with various stakeholders who are eager to leverage these supports in their work. The questions and engagement from participants demonstrated the real need for, and interest in the work we do.

Thank you to the organizers at Manhattanville University and PNW BOCES for creating this space, and to everyone who attended and engaged with us. Your commitment to our students and communities is inspiring. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and collaborations in the months ahead!
