Student diversity is a rich resource for educators striving to make classroom interactions more impactful. In this workshop, Dr. Buttaro modeled Culturally Responsive Learning Circles, a research-based strategy for increasing student engagement and academic achievement in diverse learning communities.
Informed and empowered family engagement is a cornerstone of a thriving Community School. This session covered one NYC Community School’s journey to effective and meaningful collaboration with families, based on Mr. Tinguely’s experience as a founding community school director and as a CSTAC capacity builder for new community school directors.
Building on effective communication strategies Sara Steinweiss shared practical, implementable tools to successfully communicate with staff, families, students, and community members. The workshop provided tangible tools to ensure that individuals understand the needs of the school staff, students, and community and are able to communicate their needs as well, leading them to an open, non-violent path that allows individuals to listen without judgment and communication with compassion and cooperation.
