Building capacity and deepening the understanding of the Community School Strategy
A New York State Community Schools Technical Assistance Center (CSTAC), NYC Training
In this session, new Community School Directors (CSDs) will participate in a six-hour in-person intensive providing a holistic understanding of the Community School Strategy, clarifying expectations of the CSD’s role, building capacity, and developing a network of peer support within the cohort.
We aim to:
- Assist CSDs in grasping the Community School Strategy and their part in it
- Provide CSDs with insights into the fundamental aspects of a Community School
- Inspire CSDs to discover methods for fostering continuous development within their school community
- Familiarize CSDs with group support opportunities through team-building exercises and problem-solving discussions
- Make CSDs aware of the assistance and training resources accessible to them
- Offer support for Assets and Needs Assessment and Collaborative Leadership

Morning
- 9:00 AM: Welcome and Introductions
- 9:30 AM: Cohort Development Activity
- 10:15 AM: What is the Community School Strategy?
Noon: Lunch Break
Lunch will be available at the Fordham cafeteria and neighboring restaurants, delis, and food trucks.
Afternoon
- 1:00 PM: New Visions Data Portal Overview
- 1:30 PM: Where to Begin? Assets and Needs, Collaborative Leadership and Planning
- 2:15 PM: Continuous Improvement & Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) Cycle
- 3:30 PM: Reflection & Dismissal
