The Fordham University CSTAC Presents:

Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in the Middle and High School Setting:  As a result of COVID and the ongoing effects of social media, we are experiencing a crisis in adolescent mental health and personal wellbeing. In this recorded webinar, we will explore how schools can integrate SEL practices within the academics of the middle school classroom, and beyond, so that we can begin to improve our students’ sense of self and participation in collaborative communities of learning. We will take a deep dive into the NYS SEL Benchmarks as these relate to developing student self-awareness, interpersonal connections, and ethical decision making at both the middle and high school levels.  Exemplars of SEL activities that can be implemented in middle and high school classrooms will then be provided as well as a lesson template that can be utilized by teachers to plan purposeful SEL infused lessons. We will conclude by discussing how Elementary, middle and high school teachers can assess student SEL growth and achievement as well as how SEL practices can be extended beyond the classroom throughout the community school culture.
