P.S. 205 Is Expanding Its Community School Model, in More Ways Than One
Under the leadership of Principal Jenneth Santiago Lagares, P.S. 205 in Bronx, NY has successfully implemented the community school model for several years. Already a two-campus school serving students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade, P.S. 205 recently opened a brand new gymnasium to service the students in both buildings.
P.S. 205 actively partners with Belmont Library, Bronx Arts Ensemble, Bronx Zoo, Digital Age Learning, City Squash, K-Kids, Little Flower Yoga, NYC Children’s Theater, Yale University RULER Champions, Young Audiences New York, Legacy Volleyball, STEM for Kids, and Fit Soccer. They have also received support from Fordham CSTAC as they implement an ambitious new culturally responsive ELA curriculum aligned with the New York State Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework.
This fall, P.S. 205 will expand its community school model, with a full-time CBO staff on site for the entire school day, adding to their robust afterschool program. More information about P.S. 205 can be found here.
