NYC CSTAC: District Spotlight, June 2021

One of the most innovative players in the NYC community schools world is Difference Makers, a college readiness program for high school students that is designed and implemented by Saint John’s University. Currently partnered with high schools in Staten Island—including Susan E. Wagner, Tottenville, and Curtis High Schools—Difference Makers is preparing to expand its work to additional boroughs in the coming year.

Difference Makers is an Academic Service Learning Program that connects high school students to non-profit organizations in their neighborhoods, allowing them to develop leadership skills as they address critical social justice challenges. Since launching in 2016, more than 300 students have earned certificates for their work with Difference Makers.
